Corinthia Hotel - Lisbon, Portugal
This 27 storey hotel is located at Sete Rios in Lisbon. The refurbishment project incorporated an overhaul of the facades to give the hotel a much needed fresh appearance. The ground floor consists of the reception area, restaurants and retail. This level was refurbished to accommodate a landscaped garden at the back of the hotel, an all day dining restaurant and a Portuguese restaurant. Level 1 was taken up by the Conference Centre which was extensively refurbished and upgraded to provide improved facilities. Level 2 houses the Health Club, spa, gym and pool. Levels 4 to 23 are guestroom floors with 27 rooms per floor, totalling up to 517 keys. The executive lounge on level 24, commands an excellent view of Lisbon with three of its main landmarks, namely, the Aguas Livres aqueduct, the 25th April Bridge, and the monument of Cristo Rei. One of the more important upgrades to this building was the fire security and safety systems., with the introduction of smoke detection and fire sprinklers in all rooms, fire compartmentalisation and mechanical, electrical, and communication services extensively modified.
QP assisted by providing the Commercial Management role on this project. This role entailed a full review of the calculations of the proposals prepared by the appointed Quantity Surveyor and together with the PM and the Bank Engineer the establishment and implementation of a procedure for monthly interim payments, approval of variations and successful conclusion of the final accounts.
