Malta International Airport serves as a main hub for over 30 airlines connecting more that 80 destinations. It is home to 2 runways and 28 aircraft parking stands over its 16 km perimeter together with a parking area for over 1500 cars. The terminal is spread over an area of 72,000 sqm and includes 27 retail outlets and a food court together with 12 catering establishments. On average over 1,200 tonnes of cargo is handled on site each month, and in 2016 five million passengers made use of this airport.
The Malta International Airport underwent a reconfiguration of the main terminal to cater for the increase in passenger flow. The main interventions included the shifting of security gates and security control area, the installation of additional check in desks at the departures lounge and additional lifts, escalators and stairs to improve vertical transportation, an extension of the retail area at ground and first floor level and the construction of a mezzanine floor in a double height area. The La Valette lounge was also relocated to the third floor.
QP was responsible for architectural and structural design, integrated building services, interior design, cost management and site supervision.
