Beyond the Blueprint: The Collaborative Spirit Behind Corinthia Brussels
By Robert Paul Galea - QP Senior Partner Project Management
The successful launch of a landmark hotel is never the work of one team, but the result of a powerful synergy between many. The recently opened Corinthia Brussels project is a testament to the successful collaboration between the Project Management (PM) team, the Interior Design team, and the Operations team from Corinthia. The property has quickly become the talk of the town, and its success story is rooted in a partnership that began from day one.
From the outset, our role as the Project Management team was to ensure that the project stayed on track, delivering to the highest standards while seamlessly managing every phase from design through to completion. This was pivotal in coordinating the design, construction, and final fit-out, ensuring that all milestones were met whilst juggling budget, timeline, and quality control. However, it was the close partnership between the PM team, the interior designers, and the operator that truly brought the vision for this luxury hotel to life.

From Vision to Reality: Partnering with Interior Design
The PM team's involvement with the interior design team began early in the project, aligning the design intent with the construction and operational requirements. This phase required constant communication and coordination to ensure that every detail of the design was feasible within the construction constraints. We were instrumental in managing the design development process, acting as the bridge between the design vision and the practicalities of construction.
The interior designers, namely GA and QP's Interior Design arm, in turn, brought their expertise in creating an atmosphere that matched the Corinthia brand - luxurious, elegant, and timeless. They worked closely with the PM team as well as the Client to ensure that every design element, from the selection of materials to the arrangement of furniture and fixtures, was not only aesthetically pleasing but also practical and durable. The attention to detail was unparalleled, with the designers constantly fine-tuning their plans based on feedback from the PM team, making adjustments as necessary to ensure seamless integration with the rest of the building's design.

Ensuring Operational Excellence: Aligning with the Operator
Just as design vision was being translated into reality, it was crucial to ensure the final space would function perfectly for those who would run it and experience it every day. As the project progressed, the Operations team was introduced to the process early on, establishing a strong partnership that would drive the success of the project's handover and opening. This collaboration ensured that the design and execution of every space, from guest rooms to public areas, met the operational standards expected by the Corinthia brand. Their invaluable input on operational requirements and guest experience was integrated throughout the development process.

The Final Push: A Unified Handover
As the project neared completion, the collaboration between the PM team, the designers, and the operator intensified. The synergy between the PM team and the Operations team was vital during the handover phase. While the PM team focused on ensuring that the construction was completed to specification, the Operations team began to plan for the transition to operations. This included training staff, fine-tuning the guest experience, and ensuring that all operational systems, such as housekeeping, security, and food & beverage, were ready to be seamlessly integrated into the hotel's daily operations.
Simultaneously, the final phase required meticulous attention to the installation of bespoke furniture, lighting, and finishes, which all had to meet both design and functional standards. The PM team ensured that any challenges related to logistics or construction were swiftly addressed, allowing the designers to focus on bringing their vision to fruition. Both teams worked together to identify any last-minute adjustments needed to ensure a smooth opening. Our technical expertise allowed us to address any issues that arose, while the Operations team brought in their practical knowledge to ensure that the hotel was ready for its first guests.

A New Standard for Luxury Hospitality
The result of this incredible teamwork is a property that is a true architectural and design masterpiece. The seamless integration of interior design with the building's structure has created a space that resonates with guests and locals alike. This collaborative approach, supported by all consultants involved, ensured that the Corinthia Brussels opened successfully and has since operated as a world-class destination. It stands as an iconic example of what can be achieved when project management and design professionals work in harmony, not only producing an outstanding hotel but also setting a new standard for luxury hospitality in the city.
